The Project:

Casey Llewellyn's Zaide! A Desperate Stab, named for an unfinished opera by Mozart (who is a human character in the play), was not written as a puppet play.  However, the puppets presented in this production were written into the script as part of the story, rather than being developed during production as a solution to a problem.  The script called for two puppets: Zaide, a very large puppet that could house Tiny Man, a very small puppet.  They were to be controlled by Chorus of Men, three actors that provide the audience with meta data, including the fact that they are, among other things, the puppeteers.  

The Process:

This production, as part of Brown University's 2013 Writing is Live festival, concentrated on providing the playwright an opportunity to see her script on stage.  This not only meant that production budget was limited, but that design considerations were not
